She has the kindest spirit and a passion for moms and babies, thriving through respect, education, and being heard. No matter what is happening in her life, she makes every client feel like they are her only focus for the day.
Rebecca demonstrates empathy and a caring attitude in everything she does. She created the media campaign You Matter, Your Voice Matters, and uses that attitude to honor the time she gets to spend with the moms being served by our MFM clinic and Primary OB clinic in Dexter. She talks to moms from a mom-to-mom perspective which quickly puts a mom at ease and creates a safe space for conversation.

Demonstrates extraordinary clinical skills: despite the fact that Rebecca is in a non-clinical role at the moment, she quickly shares her knowledge from being a NICU nurse, home visitor, or mom with clients allowing them to not only feel heard but to feel educated on what will happen during a doctor's visit, during an ultrasound, or if their baby has to spend time in the NICU. Her motivational interviewing skills allow her to not only help a client with immediate needs but to help identify the root of a problem and strategize together on ways to solve it.

Positive attitude: Rebecca always finds the positive in a situation. I have never seen or heard her say a negative word about her job, her co-workers, or the clients she serves.

Mission, vision, and values of Saint Francis Healthcare System: Rebecca demonstrates the mission and values of SFMC every time she engages. She is kind and thoughtful and works to empower and support those who feel they are often unheard and unseen.

Establishes a special connection with patients and families: Rebecca is one of those few individuals that can quickly and easily create a safe space for clients. She recently had a client share that she was so thankful that Dr. Wahl "told" her to go and talk to the System Care Coordinator (SCC) that day. That she didn't plan to talk to the SCC., that she knew she was fine and didn't need to know about community resources. Fast forward eight months, and this mom is in a mental health crisis Rebecca spends hours over several days talking with and listening to this mom. She tells her about not wanting to talk to her that day and repeats over and over I am so thankful I did. I don't know where I would be today if I hadn't., I don't even know if I would be here if I hadn't. I have worked with Rebecca for several years as a peer and in a supervisory role. I am blessed every day to have someone like her in my work life, and I know that I am a better person because of her.

Rebecca is working in the role of a System Care Coordinator for the RMOMS HRSA grant. The System Care Coordinator is a bridge from the clinical setting to wrap around community social service programs. Rebecca is a walking, talking resource book, and if she doesn't have what you need tucked into her toolbox, she will be on a mission to find the information and bring it back to you ASAP. She has the kindest spirit and a passion for moms and babies, thriving through respect, education, and being heard. No matter what is happening in her life, she makes every client feel like they are her only focus for the day. She empowers clients through active listening and shared decision-making as she supports and educates them.

***

Rebecca has been a nurse for several years and has worked with new parents and children. She understands what parents go through and their daily life struggles. She looks at the whole picture. For Example, it's not just arranging transportation for a patient because they do not have daycare to someone to care for their other children. Rebecca is kind and nonjudgmental. She works well with her families and staff to obtain the best plan for her patients. She is such an asset to this organization and definitely deserves this award.
