She was my super nurse, she showed up on time every time, and she advocated for me.
I'm a 39-year-old mixed-race male who happens to have Sickle Cell disease. It was my first full day on the floor as an admitted patient in a brand-new hospital to me, so to say I was a little scared and very anxious, was putting it lightly. I'm at a level 9 pain score and in need of some pain meds.

Then Anna walks in, “Hey, I'm Anna. I will be your nurse for today, I hope it's okay with you I brought in your pain meds and a few other things. Is that okay with you?” It was like she read my mind. But honestly, she was like a super nurse. She was my super nurse, she showed up on time every time, and she advocated for me.

For example, a new doctor got assigned to me and completely changed my meds. When that happened, I was like please discharge me, because I'm not about to fuss with anyone about my pain to prove to them I'm hurting. Nor will I sit here in pain and still pay you guys to be in that state of elevated pain. When she heard that, she got the doctor on the phone and explained that my home meds were more than what the new doctor was trying to give me. More so that if my home meds were not working, giving me less than what I was taking back home would not work.

Additionally, she explained that I would rather go home and be in pain for free than sit there and be in that same pain costing anywhere from $50.00 to $100.00 per day. Before I could grab my bag to start packing, she had come back into my room with the order adjusted back to what it was before this new doctor came on duty. On top of that, she had the meds already drawn up and ready to give me. She had ordered my lunch, and as she was wrapping up taking my meds, my meal tray came in. That was nowhere near what I needed or wanted to eat, and I made the comment that if I were free (meaning not locked in a hospital), I would just order UberEats; she said to order it and tell them to call her number when it got there and said would run down and pick it up. I stopped her mid-sentence because I had witnessed her being a super nurse. Helping other nurses out, passing meds for other nurses.

Taking care of her patients, really being a charge nurse with a full load to match. But it did not matter to her she was just doing her job, but to me, she was not just a nurse at this point. She was like a family member who just happened to be a nurse at the hospital I was in.

I could never say enough about Anna. Because of Anna, I'm going to make Wellstar North Fulton my new home hospital because they are not just providing nursing care; they are providing care Angels. Well, let me correct that, they are providing skilled Angel Care.
