Ashley did her job with ease, preciseness, and so much compassion.
Ashley Skowronek was my 3-year-old daughter’s nurse for over half the time we were at Children’s for 12 days. My daughter, D, got diagnosed with epilepsy while we were there. Ashley was there for us through countless seizures, countless blood draws, 2 EEGs that spanned many days, and just the wear and tear of the hospital stay.
She went above and beyond for D, myself, and my husband. She always would bring in a smile and some tickles that helped D’s smile return. She was able to always anticipate what we would need. She always asked if there was anything else she could do for us, every time she saw us, even when we passed in the hall. She even washed out clothes when we told her we couldn’t make it back to our house to get more clean clothes. Later, we found out that we could have done that ourselves. She didn’t even mention it. She saw how much we were struggling, and she just did what she thought would help us to take care of D. She even checked in on D when she wasn’t working. A PCT would give her updates, and they even video chatted the one night! D was super tickled by that! She even named one of her stuffed animals Ashley!
I just love that she made an effort to forge a connection with all of us on her very first shift. That just shows that she really CARED! On D’s last day, she was getting really antsy to go home and was having some behavior issues. Ashley came in and talked with her and the two of them went to go for a little walk and to get some stickers. My daughter’s whole day turned around after that.
Ashley did her job with ease, preciseness, and so much compassion. She was professional without being cold. She also listened to concerns and would find answers when we had questions. She worked hard for my family. Which in return made it easier for us to focus on D’s health. I do want to say that all our nurses were AMAZING throughout our entire stay! However, Ashley went that extra little bit in everything she did. She dug herself into our hearts. We really miss her and talk about her all the time. We were very blessed to have her through this extremely difficult period. Ashley is everything that is described in the DAISY Award. She is extraordinary, compassionate, and excellent in all the ways a nurse should be!
