Because of RJ's realization of this interference with smartwatches and frequency settings, we are now able to fix all EKG machines to improve readability and accuracy in all of the Urgent Cares.
I have provided a few recognitions that have been sent to me regarding our teammate RJ. RJ is working and we had to consolidate. A provider texted me due to limited devices. RJ started troubleshooting. He pulled out keyboards, got all devices working, entered IAS service orders to get Dragon, etc. It was a blessing to have RJ with us. We operated short-handed due to two clinical teammates calling out, leaving us with only two clinical teammates to support two providers. Ordinarily, this would not be an issue at most clinics, but here, we have language and culture barriers that extend visits by 10-20 minutes at a time. I explained the situation to the office and how to operate it. RJ spoke with the provider he supported, and they came up with a winning game plan for the shift and executed it to perfection. RJ remained upbeat throughout the day, communicating, sharing tasks, patient calls, labs, triaging patients, and covering my teammate when she wasn't on the floor. RJ exemplified our Culture Commitment "Work as One Team" as he joined us and operated as one unified team to support our patient population. A BIG thanks go to RJ for helping us through a rough day. I wanted to let you know that RJ has been awesome during the Wolfe/FormFox drug screen rollout in Urgent Care! I have heard on two separate calls that RJ has been extremely helpful during this process at every site he works at. The manager at Robinwood Urgent Care specifically said he was wonderful today. I appreciate his hard work and wanted to pass along the great feedback!Using our new EKG machine had become a source of frustration for my team due to frequent artifact. We had been unable to pinpoint the problem, and it was looking like our EKG was going to need to be sent back to the manufacturer for inspection. RJ had a theory that Bluetooth devices were the culprit. After troubleshooting and speaking with GE Heathcare Tech, he realized that because these machines are bluetooth, other bluetooth devices, specifically Apple watches worn by the user and/or patient, were causing interference with this specific EKG machine. Along with Clinical Engineering, RJ helped test his theory, which was proven correct. He also realized that some of the machines have the wrong frequency setting which has an impact on how clear the EKG reading is. He worked very hard to troubleshoot this issue and was very diligent in trial and error with conducting EKGs. He ran several EKGs with and without Apple watches and with different frequency settings to figure out which shows the best EKG. Because of RJ's realization of this interference with smartwatches and frequency settings, we are now able to fix all EKG machines to improve readability and accuracy in all of the Urgent Cares. We can now troubleshoot these two factors before contacting GE to troubleshoot. This was such a wonderful and unique contribution from RJ, who for us, was truly in the right place at the right time. This valuable information was later broadcast by the Nursing Team Leads so that if other clinics experienced this issue, they might be able to swiftly get it resolved. RJ, THANK YOU for your insight and hands-on help in facilitating this much-needed resolution for us. It really meant a lot! We can't thank you enough for figuring this out so that we can improve EKG readings in all urgent cares!
