Lindsay dealt with everything he presented with grace, professionalism, kindness, and humor (that last one being the thing that I think got through to my dad the most).
I could have nominated all the nurses who cared for my dad during his time in the NCC Unit. But Lindsay was the one who was on duty for him the most and who I interacted with the most, so I am nominating her for the DAISY Award. I am sure she has had more difficult patients, but my dad was certainly a handful and Lindsay dealt with everything he presented with grace, professionalism, kindness, and humor (that last one being the thing that I think got through to my dad the most).

Lindsay was incredibly patient with all the questions our family asked; she went out of her way to make sure we were informed of all the updates regarding my dad and was proactive in helping me and the rest of our family navigate my dad’s time in the NCC Unit in a way that was best for him but also for us. As for a “specific scenario” that highlights Lindsay’s “superhuman work”, I don’t have any one item but instead a running topic of conversation.

My dad was admitted five days before his birthday. When he gained some level of coherence, one of the first items on his to-do list was to figure out who to invite to his birthday party. After a few days of sometimes contentious and sometimes comical interactions with Lindsay, my dad decided that he wanted to add her to the party list. After a few more days where he was really struggling and was unpleasant to the entire staff, he declared that Lindsay was “no longer invited”. Through all of this, Lindsay continued to be amazing and gave him and our family a level of support that we will all always appreciate.

On Lindsay’s last day while he was in the NCC Unit (I hope I am writing this while she is off for 5 days) my dad asked Lindsay if they could have a truce and she replied by asking if this meant she was back on the birthday invitation list (full disclosure, that part of the story was told to me by my dad, bet even if it is not true; it illustrates the impact Lindsay had on him while under her care). He told me that yes, Lindsay is invited! Thank you, Lindsay and every other nurse, in the unit. You are all amazing!
