I had my right hip replaced at Decatur Memorial Hospital, and I received excellent care from all the staff. However, one of the registered nurses, Rhonda, provided exceptional care. Having read about the severe shortage of nurses and other healthcare personnel, I wasn't sure what kind of care I would receive. After I met Rhonda, I realized I had no worries. She was very friendly, caring, and professional in so many ways. After surgery, she did excellent assessments, demonstrating great clinical expertise and knowledge. She was very thorough, asked questions, and provided information about my recovery from surgery. I appreciated that she always introduced herself and others providing care, seemed unrushed, and checked on me regularly throughout her shift. I had my left hip replaced about a year ago, and remembered some of what to expect, but Rhonda went beyond my expectations in the care she provided. I had shared with her my concerns about complications after surgery, and she took time to carefully provide details explaining how to avoid surgery complications. I was very reassured and confident after talking with her. It was obvious that she had exceptional knowledge and skill in successfully caring for patients with orthopedic surgery. She also ended every conversation with, "Here is your call light; be sure to call me if you have any questions or need anything." This is exceptional care, considering how busy the unit was when I was there. Even though Rhonda always seems unrushed and attentive, I knew from the activity outside my door and the alarms quietly going off throughout the night, that the unit was very busy. Yet, Rhonda continued to be attentive, thorough, and unrushed. She expertly anticipated my needs and offered important information about my progress and recovery without my even having to ask. She was amazing! I wish everyone could have the positive experience at DMH like I did. Thank you Rhonda!
