What do you do when your spouse whom you have loved for 60 years suddenly becomes unrecognizable, combative, and uncontrollable? My husband was put on the 6th floor. The unit where adults whose minds have left them go and this is where angels work.

The Hensley Behavioral Health Center was home to my husband for a month. I was with him every day from five to six, and every day, I watched people in different stages of incapacity come and go. The nurses, both male and female, watched carefully over every patient and knew what each patient was doing and what their needs might be. I marveled at the patience, care, and understanding of these very kind and special nurses. No one ever made me feel like I was a bother. The love and understanding given to me personally were above and beyond any required duty.

A thank you does not seem enough, but they have my untold gratitude. My husband’s passing was easier because of the caring and kindness to my family, to me, and to my husband from the nursing staff.
