Sydney would always inform us of any and all care my husband would receive, but she took the extra step and thoroughly explained it to our daughter.
My 47-year-old husband entered the ER at our local hospital. He was experiencing signs of a heart attack, and after an abnormal EKG, he was admitted to the hospital for further testing. After several tests, they determined that 90% of his main artery was clogged. He was immediately transported to Baptist Health where he would undergo heart bypass surgery.
Our lives changed in an instant, and we were scared. The day before his surgery, he was blessed with a nurse named, Sydney. She was so patient and kind to all of us. My husband was having a lot of anxiety about his upcoming surgery and mentioned that he would love some fresh air. She made that happen. With the permission of the doctor, she wheeled him outside. While outside, we were able to visit with other family members who came to see him.
That act of kindness helped get his mind off of his surgery. Later that day, our oldest daughter came to the hospital after her class. We introduced her to Sydney and told her she is a current nursing student at the Baptist School of Nursing. She and our daughter immediately hit it off. Sydney would always inform us of any and all care my husband would receive, but she took the extra step and thoroughly explained it to our daughter. Again, by doing this, it allowed my husband to take his mind off of his pending surgery and feel normal again. She truly is exceptional!
