Kaitlyn arranged for BP to be taken from M's left leg providing just as accurate a result, but without the concomitant pain.
Please note that this is the second nomination we have written on behalf of Kaitlyn in the past six days.
The first nomination was for the extraordinarily kind, empathic, and enlightened care she provided to M before, during, and through M's transfer from Memorial 3 to ICU.
This second nomination for Kaitlyn relates to the superlative and exemplary care she provided to M upon M's return from ICU to Memorial 3. Specifically: Kaitlyn's care for M recognizes her understanding of M's autoimmune illness - and the excruciating pain of that illness, both physically and emotionally.
Recognizing that even taking M's BP by placing a cuff on her arm was extremely painful, Kaitlyn arranged for BP to be taken from M's left leg providing just as accurate a result, but without the concomitant pain.
And again: Kaitlyn went to extraordinary lengths to ensure that in changing the dressings on each of M's four extremely painful wounds, she ameliorated pain and discomfort by proceeding slowly, using appropriate medical agents to gently remove the dressings without damaging the extremely sensitive skin - while engaging the patient in gentle, focused conversation during the entire time.
And again: Recognizing that even obtaining a blood draw conventionally caused pain to M, Kaitlyn arranged for blood to be drawn through the PICC line.
Amazing care. Amazing grace.
This is Kaitlyn: medically expert, empathic, effective. Importantly, her calmness and gentle demeanor in managing M's anxiety and pain were and are contagious.
We have encountered many excellent nurses at BGH. Kaitlyn is the Best of the Best of the Best.
