Our Dad spent eight days in the hospital. Dad is otherwise a very healthy man and was now facing a long hospital stay with unknowns, exhaustion, pain, needing others for assistance, and no idea what his plan was. While there, I had a hard time leaving at 8 p.m., not knowing what kind of care he would get while I was gone.

When I met Jenna, I was relieved. I have worked in a hospital for 15 years and wish everyone I've crossed paths with could model care after her. She was knowledgeable, and smart and brought joy into the room every time she walked in. She put his needs first and showed compassion to my family. Dad wasn't laughing or smiling as usual. Jenna was able to get that spark back in him. He lit up when he saw her.

She knew his plan of care, everything about him, and our goals. She made sure as a family we had the tools and education needed to get him home safely. She got him out of bed, walking the halls, and we got closer to going home. I left at night and slept well knowing he was in great hands. Telling Dad's story to co-workers brought tears to my eyes when I talked about Jenna. While we only had two days with Jenna, she has left a lasting impression on us all.
