Laura was caring for a team of three patients of which one was actively passing and on comfort measures requiring morphine hourly until he was placed on morphine drip of which was advocated for him by Laura. She worked diligently to make sure he received his medicine hourly for comfort and repositioning him frequently for comfort. She provided frequent oral care to ensure his mouth remained moist. During this time, she also made time to get to know his family and supported their emotional needs while concurrently providing excellent care to her other two patients who kept her very busy as well. I am sure that Laura skipped her breaks and probably her lunch that day to ensure her patients and family members were well cared for.

The Veteran passed during shift change of which is often a busy time, but Laura did not provide the family anything less than her full attention. She remained after her shift to provide post-mortem care for the Veteran. After the TAPS ceremony Laura spoke a heartfelt prayer for the family and then transported the Veteran to the morgue. She then escorted the family downstairs to speak with the administrator of the funeral home for arrangements. Laura gives 100% and goes above and beyond every day and this is just one example of the amazing care she provides to Veteran’s and their families.
