But she took the time to answer my questions and explain things the doctor said that I didn’t understand
I came to the ER with a heart rhythm issue and found myself in the hospital for several days. So many people were kind to me. I really appreciated everyone who took care of me. However, there was a nurse who repeatedly went above and beyond to care for me in big ways and small ways, Nurse Patti. Patti was gentle starting IVs and giving shots. She answered all my many, many questions even when she was busy. But even beyond all of that, she never made me feel embarrassed or awkward about helping me with personal issues like helping me go to the bathroom or washing up each morning. She was excellent at her job, and I felt my health was in good hands. But, beyond that she treated me like a person. When the fan she brought into the room for me was noisy, I didn’t complain. But, she said it was too noisy and hunted to find me a quieter one so the sound wouldn’t keep me from sleeping well. When I made a mistake ordering my meal and didn’t receive very much food, she called the cafeteria and had them bring me another side dish so I wouldn’t be hungry.

But, most of all, when she heard I was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm, she came in to see if I was okay. She wasn’t even my nurse that day. But she took the time to answer my questions and explain things the doctor said that I didn’t understand. She was beyond kind. I will never forget how she helped me. I was afraid and she made sure I was ok and calm. Thank you!
