Kaitlin is an exceptional student that every professor hopes to have in their class. I have had the privilege of educating her in theory and clinical and have watched her excel in acquiring new content and providing compassionate bedside care. During one clinical rotation, Kaitlin was on a busy unit at the medical center and was going out of her way to help the nurse she was assigned with and several others on the unit. As I made my rounds to check in with the students, I was speaking with Kaitlin and another student who was having a difficult time understanding the medical diagnosis and associated nursing care. Kaitlin went out of her way to help the other student understand the concepts and specific interventions, while demonstrating the approach to take with the student's patient she was assigned to care for. I stand in admiration of Kaitlin's ability to cohesively care for multiple patients and encourage her peers in clinical and class time. She embodies the values of what the DAISY represents and what the school of nursing hopes for in every student.
