I wanted to take a minute to say a special Thank You to Adisa. She was day charge on Friday. We were short-staffed due to several call-ins and she elected to stay late and continue in the charge role until another nurse could come in.

We were very busy with several unstable patients, but Adisa was ever-present. She made a continual circuit around the unit, ensuring we were all okay and had what we needed in addition to continually checking in on our sicker patients, so she could constantly be aware of the status of the unstable ones. She was vigilant over all aspects of the unit including patients, staff, resources, supplies, and more.

Unfortunately, that night, we had a code. We wound up coding the patient a couple of times before he passed. During one of those codes, I found out that Adisa had a death in the family, her grandmother had died that same day too. I am humbled by her dedication and professionalism. She greatly exceeded any expectation that I would normally have of a charge, all during a time of personal loss, and she did it with a smile on her face. Despite everything going on, she maintained her smile, her humor, and her professionalism.

Adisa wound up staying that night until probably around 5:00 a.m. helping and ensuring that the team was taken care of. I am so appreciative of her and her leadership. Adisa is not only an example of what a leader should be but is a true example of a team player. I cannot say enough about her role and leadership that night. I'd be thrilled to have her working alongside me, or as my charge, any day.
