Makayla clearly cares about her patients and takes her job as a nurse seriously to ensure high-quality care for patients. She had a patient where she had trouble getting the primary team to respond to her pages about blood pressure medication, so she pulled me aside as the neurology consultant to respectfully ask for changes. In fact, it was clear that the order that she was concerned about was meant to be PRN as compared to scheduled, so her intervention avoided a potential significant medical error. When she approached the provider about this potential issue, she was respectful and thankful for addressing it, as well as clearly deferring to the judgement of the physician. This was just one example of her excellent care over my time working with her on mutual patients. In other situations, she also would ask very appropriate questions to maximize patient safety when there were high risks of medical errors. Therefore, I think her routine habits of how she nurses are helping the physicians practice better medicine, as well as improving patient safety.
