Lauren is a true example of a nurse who loves her calling. She is passionate and extremely engaged. She takes her role as a nurse seriously and provides excellent care, as well as initiates many process improvement projects on her unit. This nurse loves to teach. She precepts with patience and goes above and beyond to teach new nurses as much as possible to ensure their success. New nurses speak very highly of Lauren and the support she provides them during their orientation and beyond. She has developed an initiative in our unit to improve education and documentation for CHF patients. She put together many resources for the patients and nurses and will be rolling out some of her ideas on other floors in the hospital. She is also very attentive to her patients and spends extra time with them to ensure they have everything they need. She has excellent assessment skills and acts quickly when needed. One example of Lauren's ability to quickly respond was a patient who coded during her shift. The patient went to the bathroom, and once he came back to his bed, because of his chronic health issues, was unable to recover from a vagal response. When she went into the room to assess the patient and found him unresponsive, she immediately pulled to code blue button and began CPR. I feel that this excellent outcome was greatly due to her quick action and ability to do what is needed for her patients in a very stressful situation. Lauren truly cares about nursing practice and wants to make a difference in the lives of our patients and caregivers. She is a true asset to our team and very deserving of this recognition.
