Shawna has been an absolutely phenomenal nurse to our father during his stay on the floor of Virtua Mt. Holly following a fall and partial hip replacements surgery. Our dad is 88 years old with mild dementia and had a tough time with the combination of the trauma of his fall, hospital transfer/surgery, and the effects of the pain meds, etc.… Shawna’s genuine compassion, patience, and enthusiasm were motivating to him and made a huge difference in helping him to reach a steady state. She was consistently so positive, kind, and encouraging with our dad and so capable, incredibly responsive and confident in addressing his needs. We felt he was in great hands with her as his nurse. When our dad was moved to a different room, outside of Shawna’s direct assignment, she still made sure to check in and help oversee his care, so that nothing was missed. She conveyed a sincere affection toward him that we appreciated so much. Shawna was flexible with us (his immediate family) in allowing us to be with him for the additional support he so critically needed (mentally/emotionally and for mealtimes). You could see that she was also a great leader for her team. I don’t believe I’ve ever experienced or observed a nurse as professional, compassionate, and excellent at her calling as Shawna. May God reward her for her all she does.
