My daughter is pre-verbal and can't fully articulate her feelings yet, but that wasn't an issue with Emily.
Tonight was a parent's worst nightmare! My husband gave our 4-year-old, autistic daughter, her sleeping meds and regretfully I gave her a dose as well. They took care of her in the ER, but from the moment we arrived at the PICU Emily had been amazing! She is very knowledgeable, patient, and kind to my daughter, my husband, and me. She's reassured me that I'm not a horrible mother and has answered every single question I've had.
From 3a-5a her machine has gone off consistently and each time Emily comes and thoroughly makes sure my daughter is okay before she just clears the machine. I must point out that every time she came in with a smile, and explained the alert when I asked. She offered to get us what we needed multiple times and I felt it was sincere to care for us while we were so distraught and not simply "doing her job." I'm not sure how I would have made it through such a mentally taxing moment with any other nurse.
My daughter is pre-verbal and can't fully articulate her feelings yet, but that wasn't an issue with Emily. She came to her level and spoke to her as she would any other child which meant the world to me. She brought toys and really helped me comfort her so that could finally rest. Please, to whoever is reading this, she deserves to be recognized for her knowledgeable, thorough, and gentle skills with my daughter!
Along with her amazing bedside manners with us, I wish I could think of better adjectives to better explain how amazing she has been to my family and she is the model to which nurses should be trained to be. She represents Texas Children so well, and I will tell anyone who will listen that this is an amazing hospital to bring your children to. Thank you.
