She brings joy and honesty to her work every day. She makes everyone laugh but is sensitive and caring.
I first met Tammie in 1999 when I was a new nurse practitioner and Tammie was the charge nurse of the infusion room in the oncology clinic. Ever since that day I have been awed by Tammie's excellence in nursing that can be summarized in three areas: 1) patients and parents love her; 2) co-workers and colleagues want to be on shifts with her; and 3) management consistently promotes her to leadership positions.
Watching Tammie work with patients is like seeing the best TV medical drama. I have seen her get the most recalcitrant teenager to laugh and joke with her. I have watched her comfort exhausted and tearful parents and become a listening ear to their worries. I have stood at the door of a room as Tammie coaxed a grouchy toddler on steroids to take their oral medicines.
Not only is her bedside manner incredible, but her nursing skills are superb. I would pick her to access my port any day and I know the same thing has occurred in every unit where she works whether it's GI or the OR or BMT.
Second Tammie is cherished by her colleagues. She brings joy and honesty to her work every day. She makes everyone laugh but is sensitive and caring. She is organized and thoughtful and stands up for the rights of her patients. Her colleagues say it is the best workday when Tammie is in charge. The physicians and surgeons choose her to manage their clinics or operating rooms. As she has journeyed through her career and various settings she learns quickly and becomes an integral part of every team.
Finally, Tammie is promoted to leadership roles rapidly everywhere she works. In the infusion room she managed the room and kept the patients and nurses moving through efficiently and safely. When she pioneered and managed the propofol clinic she created a structure to help children undergo anesthesia for their painful procedures in a way that worked for the clinic flow the providers the anesthesiologists the nurses the schedulers and most importantly the families. In her positions in the OR, she consistently is asked to be Charge Nurse and run the day for the entire staff. She has also been promoted to leadership in the service lines of Ortho GI and Hem/Onc.
In summary, Tammie is the epitome of a DAISY Nurse and represents the truly extraordinary work that nurses do every day. I can't think of someone I'd rather work with or care for my children or me.
