My son was brought into the emergency department a very sick little boy. His father and I were terrified, as his condition deteriorated in front of us. He was in extreme discomfort, and Amanda was our saving grace. She made us feel like our son was her only patient (even though he wasn’t). She treated him with compassion and made a connection with him. Most importantly, she advocated for him when I couldn’t, even standing and letting saline drip manually into his arm in an attempt to save his IV line. She did everything in her power to keep him comfortable all day until he was admitted. 4 days later, we had to return to the ER, and he requested her. Immediately she remembered him by name and made him feel comfortable again (in fact, he did not want to leave at discharge time). Amanda is the face that every scared ED parent needs to be greeted with, in order to put their heart at ease. Every nurse we had at CCMC was amazing, but Amanda was next level, and we will always be thankful for her.
