She values the contributions of staff, which enhances her ability to further interact with people in a meaningful way.
It is with great honor to nominate Laura McDonald, Nurse Manager of the Short Stay Unit, for a DAISY Award in recognition of her outstanding leadership in supporting the patient care team, bringing positivity to the workplace, and promoting effective, safe, high-quality patient experiences and outcomes. Needless to say, Laura is an accountable but caring nurse manager. She provides fair, honest feedback and is always open to discussions that touch on staff welfare. For example, she provides clear instructions and regular updates regarding new changes which help keep everyone on track; ensuring high-quality patient care continues uninterrupted. Moreover, she exhibits good communication and listening skills, so no staff feels less valued than other team members within the Short Stay Unit.

Most importantly, she values the contributions of staff, which enhances her ability to further interact with people in a meaningful way. Similarly, leading by example, nurse manager Laura McDonald inspires staff to do the best they can for the benefit of patients and PeaceHealth. In addition to her leadership role, she jumps right in as a substitute Charge Nurse, Short Stay Surgical Board Coordinator, meals and breaks nurse, bedside nurse, wheelchair transporter, and housekeeper. Laura is truly appreciated for what she does to help everyone achieve the PeaceHealth Mission and Values by “… promoting personal and community health, relieving pain and suffering, and treating each person in a loving and caring way.”

As John Quincy Adams once said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” Laura McDonald is just such a leader. Laura has earned not only recognition among staff but also the respect and gratitude of those for whom and with whom she serves. Short Stay Unit staff are grateful to be inspired and motivated to deliver ever-higher levels of service by the example Laura sets.
