Aaron is one incomparable nurse and human.

Aaron Holden is one of our unit's most recognized nurses by his patients for always going above and beyond in his care. Aaron is not only a skilled clinician, but is the type of nurse that you would want to work alongside with.

Aaron recently cared for a very complex and critical patient. Aaron was his most frequently assigned nurse during his 130 day stay in the ICU. Aaron cared for him 80% of this time. Aaron made sure he was on the schedule on the days that our patient had PET scans or MRIs because he knew how crucial these tests were. He knew his fragile body more than any other nurse. He knew what medications worked best for him and what medications he needed to keep him safe. He collaborated with our Oncologist and ICU physicians every time and was often the reason that these tests were even able to be accomplished.

Although our patient had a trach and could not speak, Aaron was one of the only people that knew how to communicate with him and meet most of his needs. Aaron knew how to manage his anxiety and pain. Aaron worked with the patient's family to help voice their ideas in the patient's plan of care. Over and over, Aaron was one of his biggest advocates.

When our patient was stable enough, Aaron got special permission from physicians and, in collaboration with physical therapy and respiratory therapy, he took this patient to the lobby to visit with his dog whom he had not seen in 2 months. This was a happy day for our sweet patient and his family.

These are a few words that his wife wrote about him, "Aaron is one incomparable nurse and human. He is the biggest asset to Medical City. He not only gives his best care to his patients including my husband but he truly treats us like his own family. There are not enough words to thank him. He made my husband a miracle patient with all of his hard work. "

Our sweet patient fought a difficult battle and gained his wings. Aaron came in on his off day to support their family and was at bedside when our patient passed away. The family was extremely grateful for him to be there in this difficult moment. Aaron was honored at the patient's memorial service and was asked to give a speech describing his brave battle in the ICU. Several of our ICU nurses were also able to attend in support.

This is just one example of the type of nurse Aaron is. There are countless examples from his patients over the years of how Aaron went above and beyond for them. He is committed to his profession and provides the best care. With every patient, Aaron exemplifies what it looks like to care like family, be compassionate, and above all else be committed to the care of human life.
