The nursing team of NMC Medical Centre Alquoz Dubai, goes over and beyond their call of duty. For showing their professionalism and commitment to excellent nursing care despite all the challenges.

A lady patient arrived with a complaint of severe abdominal pain. She was immediately assisted to the treatment room; during the initial nursing assessment, it was noted that the patient’s abdomen is severely contracted, with no bleeding, and no signs of pregnancy but when they started to examine the abdomen the presence of Linea nigra was observed. Therefore, the nurse asked the patient if she was pregnant, which she initially denied but eventually confessed that she was in fact pregnant and no prenatal check-up was ever done. I immediately referred to a higher centre.

When the first ambulance arrived she started bleeding so the nurses anticipated and started preparing all the instruments needed. Unfortunately due to the circumstances, a back-up ambulance was called. By then, the patient started to have severe bleeding which I asked the female nurse to check and she informed me that the patient was having excessive show followed by crowning.

At around 10:30 p.m., the baby was out. Thankfully the baby is not in distress, she immediately cried after minimal suctioning. Nurses prepared the baby for transport to NMC DIP Hospital. Both the patient and baby were healthy and were transported to the hospital. I am thankful for the nurse’s critical thinking which made us all treat and perform what is necessary to the patient.

In another critical management of a patient who complained of severe headache and hypertension, the triage nurse immediately assisted the patient and took her vital signs; while interviewing, the nurse observed that the patient's speech was slurred and having difficulty answering questions. I was immediately alerted and performed a B.E. FAST assessment for stroke. The patient showed facial weakness, thus the nurse called the ambulance for immediate transfer to Rashid Hospital Stroke Centre. The patient wished the team the best to achieve in future endeavours.

I would like to sincerely appreciate the team of NMC Amala Medical Centre for extending their care and love towards the patient care and treatment with critical thinking, appropriate, decision-making for the cases like sudden collapse, shock, fall and stroke etc
