Greg built a relationship with our daughter. He made sure she knew he respected her.
There aren't enough words to describe the comfort, peace, and encouragement Greg gave us. He met us as soon as his shift began. We had asked our night nurse for meds, and Greg was bringing them. He met my husband and me on the floor, catching throw-up from our daughter. Even before that, he could hear her getting sick and made sure we knew he was on the way to help. Greg jumped into action, getting her the IV meds she needed to calm her vomiting. He grabbed more towels to help with the mess, and when he returned, he found me on the floor crying while holding my daughter. Like the other nurses, he assured me we were in the right place, but he also continued to talk to me, making sure we knew he was there to support us and care for our daughter.

Greg answered our questions with honesty and empowered us, as her parents, to ask them. He paid attention to what worried us, and even after explaining things, like a small bubble in her IV line wasn’t a hazard or danger, he cleaned it and put me at peace. He knew I was a mom with a 2-year-old, functioning on very little sleep, and was dealing with anxiety from treatment during our last ER visit.

Greg built a relationship with our daughter. He made sure she knew he respected her. Even while sick, that's a big deal to her. He spoke to her like she was a real person, and when talking to us about her, she wasn’t just a patient but our daughter. Any question or request we made was never a bother, and always met with a beautiful heart to serve.

Being a pandemic baby, our daughter is very picky about people, but in one shift, she grew to love Greg, and when he told her “goodnight” and let us know he was leaving, she said “night night” and blew him a kiss. He wasn’t our nurse the next day, but he still came by to say hi and check on all of us. I wish there were more room on this form as there are so many things that he did that made a horrible life event a little easier.

P.S. His student was also incredible and had many of his qualities.
