Megan always takes the extra time to sit with a patient, look at them, listen to them, and get to the bottom of what they need and struggle with. She takes the extra step to make them feel heard and not judged.
Megan demonstrates patient-centered care from the moment she walks into work until she walks out. She's the lead nurse for Coordinated Care and Hennepin Health Access Clinics - our clinics for some of the most socially, physically, and psychiatrically complex patients that Hennepin Healthcare serves. It takes high levels of nursing assessment, triage of some incredibly ill patients, managing medical emergencies and behavioral issues, reinforcing treatment plans, multidisciplinary collaboration. The lead nurse is in clinic most of the time - and most of the providers are part time - so the nursing role is even more important. Megan handles it so well! She recognizes acuity and when we need to move a patient to the emergency department to expedite a workup.
Another strength is her consistency and respect for patients. These patients can tax even the most seasoned health team - but Megan doesn't show it. Patients trust Megan. Some of these patients have trust issues - but they trust Megan. She deals with patients who are angry that they can't get controlled substances in a respectful way. She is valued by every team. She is of the same caliber as other DAISY Honorees. Thank you for your consideration.

She takes the extra step to make them feel heard and not judged. She also takes the time to help out the providers she works with to make the phone call and dig in the chart to get more information about any call or concern that comes in. She never just "forwards" a message. The examples are endless. She has an amazing way of making sure a patient is reassured and safe and can sense nervousness and takes care to make a patient as comfortable as possible.

Takes ownership, follows through, super smart and uses her experience and compassion to problem-solve. Treats all patients with the respect they deserve. Not cynical. Great co-worker.

Megan is extremely dedicated to our vulnerable patients in CCC/HHA. She is lovely to work with due to her positive attitude, professionalism, and expertise. She also has worked as primary clinic RN in the midst of her partner retiring. Megan is always welcoming of float nurses. She deserves this recognition.
