When you are admitted to a behavioral health unit, you already feel that you have no value. Denis went above and beyond to make sure I felt dignified and my feelings were kept in check. He worked very hard to make sure all of my needs were met, even while he worked extra shifts or was working overtime. He made sure the patient's needs were met. The behavioral health unit is a very hard place to be admitted into and somehow he seemed to make it more bearable. In this time of the world, it is very hard to come to work happy with all of the shortages of help and staff but he had no problem going the extra mile to make sure you are cared for and feel valued. He makes you feel safe and respected. He made me feel like a valued human being, no matter my needs. I've seen him run to help others in need while making sure everyone else was attended to. I've seen Denis walk all day long without sitting at all to make sure that patients do not fall. I've seen him hug a patient who was crying and just needed a hug. Denis never complained or griped. He got along with everyone; the team was like a family. They never talked badly about anyone and always had a positive attitude, even during tough times. I commend all of the staff, but Denis is truly amazing and deserves this prestigious award for his kindness and empathy.
