Jody is very clinically competent, but what makes her outstanding is her compassion and drive to ensure patient-centered care is at the heart of all she does, and she demonstrates this continuously.
Jody is ACP in Trauma & Orthopaedics and has done outstanding work within her specialty to ensure we listen to our patients and truly hear what they are saying. On the back of patient feedback it was evident that many patients had concerns about communication and on drilling down to the detail has led from the front to implement 'Hearing it my way' a training and awareness programme that puts the patients' experience front and centre. Jody is a convincing and inspiring champion for the programme; she uses patient’s stories and examples to illustrate just how important it is and the impact, how it feels when we get it wrong. And I see Jody embody this. She worked with my patient panel designing scenarios for training and wasn't afraid to approach the tricky situations, she used real experiences at the core. And I have seen her embody this on a personal level too. I went to her worried and frustrated with my husband’s care, and she unblocked blockages I thought couldn't be; she listened and allayed my husband’s fears, and she allayed my fears (always more difficult being on the other side and overthinking things) she sorted out problems and resolved issues that had been dragging on for over a year across four different consultants. Jody is one of the kindest, most compassionate, and most empathetic nurses I have met, she instills calm, and you have complete faith and trust in her. Thank you, Jody.

Jody currently works as one of our Orthopaedic ACPs and is a nurse by background. Her passion for orthopaedics, her drive, commitment, and passion for both staff and patients have led her to where she is today. Jody is very clinically competent, but what makes her outstanding is her compassion and drive to ensure patient-centered care is at the heart of all she does, and she demonstrates this continuously. Jody is actively involved in patient experience both divisionally for surgery and for the Trust and has recently commenced as a cultural ambassador. Jody is always very supportive of her colleagues, and her involvement in patient experience and becoming a cultural ambassador shows her genuine passion for ensuring the very best for staff and patients. She is very supportive and shows excellent leadership to all staff at all levels and works very closely alongside clinicians, ACPs, nursing staff, and support staff. Jody firmly believes staff well-being and upholding excellent values and behaviours make a real difference in the delivery of compassionate patient care. Following a patient complaint, Jody pushed to ensure learning was had and led on a workstream called 'Hearing it Your Way' within the Orthopaedic department. This was a large and very interactive event involving a series of workstations all based around communication. Actors were portraying either patients or staff and were given a brief of a difficult communication situation. Staff within the orthopaedic department were invited to attend and move between each station. The staff were then given feedback regarding what went well and what could have gone better. The day was a huge success, and several external agencies have shown interest in this workstream. In addition to the above, Jody has been actively involved in our governance process and has managed and led on multiple complaints and incident responses/investigations and supported clinical colleagues to do this. This is all based on ensuring learning is identified and actioned upon but also to ensure our patients are listened to in a kind and empathetic way. Jody receives excellent feedback from patients regarding her kindness and ability to manage their conditions, and she is thought of by all her colleagues as a very kind, intelligent, and compassionate person who has patients at the heart of all she does.
