I went to the VA for my scheduled appointment. Nurse McKithean asked me how my health was. I told her that I was having pressure in my chest, and I felt uncomfortable. She immediately said, “Oh no, you need to go straight to ER.” So, she walked with me down to the ER and stayed there until they called my name. After testing and staying overnight, I was having a heart attack. I was rushed to the Naval Base in Portsmouth, where the doctors told me I had 95% blockage of my main artery, and they call it “the widow maker.” If it had not been for nurse McKithean doing what she does, paying attention to her patients and acting on it, I wouldn’t be here able to tell you how great of a nurse and person she is. I truly believe I am alive because God put her there for me. Whenever I have questions, I email her through MYHEALTHYVET, and she responds in a timely manner. The entire team is great, but Nurse McKithean stands out because she’s direct with me, she gives me options and takes her time with me. She never rushes anything. Very detail-oriented. As a Veteran, she makes me feel that I’m always welcome to call or message her, and I do. That’s a good feeling to have.
