The patient's physician sought Jerilyn out to tell her what a difference she made in the postpartum period for her patient.
Jerilyn took care of a patient who experienced a fetal demise at 35 weeks. At this point in the pregnancy/delivery, lactation support visits the patient to help them determine, usually, how to dry up their milk supply since they will not be discharged, unfortunately, with a live baby. These are difficult conversations in the middle of intense grieving and loss.
Jerilyn was so gentle and respectful with the patient, giving her great information to make an informed choice on how to handle her milk coming in due to her advanced gestation. The patient's physician sought Jerilyn out to tell her what a difference she made in the postpartum period for her patient; she chose to start pumping to keep a milk supply for donation to infants in need in remembrance of her lost baby. In the midst of such a difficult situation, Jerilyn's grace and gentle way of delivering information allowed the patient to choose to generously give back human milk to help other babies.
