When I think of Jana I immediately think of her gentle touch. Whenever she checks on a patient or listens to something they might need, she lays a very gentle hand on them, and it is immediately soothing and literally “makes it all better”. This makes her patients feel like they are the only patient in the world and confirms that she is 100 percent listening to them.

Jana oversees the unit, yet when she is there, other nurses feel comfortable asking for her help if they are busy. It’s amazing to watch all the nurses on the infusion floor work together in a seamless fashion.

Jana is the first to remember a name or a family member or a story you shared with her four treatments ago! On my first day of infusion which was going to start 28 long weeks of chemo and immunotherapy, I met Jana and felt like “I can do this” thanks to her comforting words of encouragement.

I have come to know Jana over the last 15 months of treatments and have enjoyed watching her work her magic and have the same effect on so many other patients. While I could nominate all the nurses that have cared for me during my treatments at Rex, I would like to nominate Jana for the DAISY Award knowing Jana would be the first to give credit to her coworkers!
