It was the first time I had a sincere human communication in 2 days. I felt seen, heard, and cared for.
Our 2-month-old with RSV was admitted to the unit in the middle of the night. I was exhausted, baby was fussy and exhausted, and as a nurse, I knew the admissions process to the unit was coming. Bri was amazing, kind, and compassionate. She thoroughly but quickly got through the admission assessment of baby and with the required questions of me. She made sure I was comfortable, explained how to adjust the bed and chair. Brought in sleep stuff for me and explained what the next few hours would look like.

The next night, she was back on, and our sweet baby wasn’t doing as well, she was quick to assess and brought those concerns to the Team. She stayed on top of her O2 needs, quickly coming in when alarms sounded, and reassured me the entire time. She realized how exhausted we both were and made a schedule that helped both of us sleep as much as possible but still ensured my daughter was safe. That second night she stayed in my room after an exhausting stretch to settle the baby and just talked with me for about an hour, and it was the first time I had a sincere human communication in 2 days. I felt seen, heard, and cared for. That is nursing; it’s what we all strive for in our practice! The unit is lucky to have such a great compassionate nurse.
