Ginger is an outstanding nurse caring daily for cancer patients by administering and teaching about chemotherapy. Today, she was providing care for her patient when she heard the patient in the next bay give a slight cough. One may not pay attention to such a thing, but Ginger is an outstanding nurse. She knew that the patient in that bay was receiving a new medication with quickly escalating hypersensitivity reactions that can lead to anaphylaxis. She immediately stepped away from her patient to assess. The patient receiving the new medication denied any real symptoms, yet Ginger intervened. Because of her excellence, she and the patient's primary nurse administered lifesaving medications immediately. The patient's symptoms quickly worsened, as Ginger feared; however, thanks to Ginger's quick assessment and actions, the patient was stable when transferred to the ED via ambulance. She absolutely saved the patient's life using her nursing skills and expertise.
