Diane is an Extraordinary Nurse and coworker. She is always willing to help, come in early, stay late, work her days off, take extra call for coworkers, etc. She is a wealth of knowledge. She has worked here since 1985. As a team lead, she is a resource for everyone in the hospital when it comes to neurosurgery. Diane has a knack for attention to detail. She maintains our bone bank documentation for all biologic implants used in all specialties of surgery. As a former member of the heart team, Diane is able to help in just about any surgery we do here at St. Elizabeths. Above all, her heart is why Diane is a DAISY Nurse. Diane can run a code everyday of the week, circulate an emergent surgical case, teach new hires how to be their best, but what not everyone sees is how important each and every patient is to her.

On the day of this nomination, Diane brought her patient to the OR. I overheard the patient tell Diane that his daughter was getting married tomorrow and he had no family present in the hospital. Diane stopped in her tracks and figured out how to reach his daughter. The patient was able to speak to his daughter over the phone prior to undergoing a critical and possibly life saving surgery. Did I mention it was supposed to be Diane’s day off? It’s for these reasons and so many more that Diane is a true DAISY Nurse.
