She went to the back of the patient's bed and provided a simple comfort of placing a hand on her shoulder.
Her patient went for a CTA and was unable to tolerate lying flat due to her ongoing medical condition. I responded to the rapid, and she actually reached out to CT, stating that she was concerned the rapid response might be her patient. Shortly after, she arrived and immediately went to the patient to provide compassionate comfort. She was able to answer our questions to the best of her ability, but her sole focus remained on the patient's comfort, which is exactly what we needed at that time. Her patient was pretty anxious as we currently do not thoroughly know what is going on with her, but that it may lead to intubation. Pulmonology came and spoke with the patient as well while we were waiting for a bed assignment on CCU. She went to the back of the patient's bed and provided a simple comfort of placing a hand on her shoulder. She also continuously used encouraging words with the patient to let her know that this transfer was so that we could give the patient the best care possible and the care that she deserves. I work with many different nurses during rapid responses, and this was by far the most compassionate care that I have ever seen given during a rapid. At one point, I stopped encouraging the patient and let her take over because she was just so phenomenal!
