Kristi is remarkably dedicated to her patients - whether this is in her role as a bedside nurse advocating for cultural humility in her colleagues, or as a student nurse practitioner where she puts patients' well-being above her comfort, advocating for her patient's well-being even if it means uncomfortable or difficult conversations with attendings. Kristi provides compassionate, patient-centered care and is going to be an asset to the community as a future provider and is a joy to teach.

Kristi is always thinking of how she can better advocate for her patients and families. She has frequently shared with me how her experience growing up as the daughter of migrant workers with limited English proficiency influenced her choice to become a nurse practitioner, and this is apparent through her clinical experiences. She takes the time to get to know each patient and their story, and is always thoughtful about her diagnoses and treatment plan, taking the families' cultural beliefs and life circumstances into account.

Just this week, I observed Kristi working with a teenage patient who lived quite a distance from the hospital. While explaining the proposed discharge plan, Kristi made sure to ask the family whether transportation back to OHSU would be a hardship for the family. I also saw her advocating for this patient with the medical team, trying to arrange so that the patient could have the procedure she needed prior to discharge so that the patient would not have to return a week later. It was so refreshing to see a student not only ask the right "medical" questions but truly see the whole patient and family and take the time to ensure that the patient and family understood the plan and felt comfortable with it, as well as address any potential barriers to success. Kristi truly embodies the characteristics of a DAISY Nurse and is a shining example of how pediatric nurse practitioners can make a difference in the healthcare system.
