In my short time here, I have seen Kara go head-to-head with physicians, advocating for patients when they feel they have not been heard.
Kara is a fierce patient care advocate for the WCBC. In triage, Kara is a skilled nurse who looks after patients with compassion and empathy on a daily basis. No matter the situation, Kara ensures that her patients get what they need for their physical and mental health.

In my short time here, I have seen Kara go head-to-head with physicians, advocating for patients when they feel they have not been heard. During one situation, when a patient felt that their physical complaints were not being taken seriously by physicians, Kara personally went to talk to the patient's provider to get them to see the patient. When that didn't turn out as planned, she then came to the UD's of the birthing center for advice, following the chain of command needed to ensure someone came to see the patient.

In another situation, Kara had a patient who had some intellectual challenges. She patiently stayed and talked to the patient until she understood what was going on, all the while focusing on her well-being by reading her nonverbal communication, saying that she could see the patient's look of distress on her face, and trying to ease her mind during a stressful situation. This is consistent behavior for Kara as she is always looking out for her patient's best interests so that they can experience the most optimal outcome for their baby and themselves. Kara embodies everything The DAISY Award stands for.
