R passed away surrounded by her family, all except one, a daughter, G, who was waiting in the Emergency Department for an inpatient bed. As it turned out the daughter was admitted to the same unit on which her mother had recently passed. Upon realizing R's daughter was now on the unit, Christine Wilcoxson, her RN was able to coordinate with G's nurse to have the family come to the room to inform her about her mother and sit with her during this difficult time. At the family's request, Christine was then able to coordinate for G to be medicated appropriately and transferred into her mother’s room by bed to say her final goodbye. During this entire process, Christine displayed an amazing capacity for compassion and empathy, which motivated her to go to great lengths to ease the family's worries and assist them in any way possible.
