Nelli, absolutely met me in that place of sadness, fear, and pain. She demonstrated a high level of emotional intelligence, she immediately saw that I was in a fragile place, and gently touched my shoulder, which allowed me to cry for the first time while being here.
This is my 2nd admission in July at MSJ; For a lung abscess. The last two months have been challenging, both personally and physically. In June, my husband of almost 38 years died, soon after I started declining physically, developing a lung abscess, and having way too many medical interactions. I've been an RN for 40 years, and have lots of support, but my needs require the expertise of MSJ.
I consider myself a strong person, but today I just needed to cry and have someone hear & listen to me. Between pain, grieving, and being away from home, everything related to coping, fell apart for me, and Nelli was there for me. Nelli has been my nurse for the last couple of nights. She has provided me with compassionate, excellent care. She quietly and efficiently performs her role, responds quickly to requests, and makes me feel safe.

I was able to share my fears, and sadness about the loss of my husband and being away from my family. She encouraged me to reach out to my family to visit. Her silence, encouragement, and presence were more valuable than I can explain. I will never forget her ability to connect and provide a safe space for me to cry and be totally vulnerable. Thank you, Nelli - You are special!
