She spent the time to learn about me and my family, to understand what we were going through, and then used this information to help with the pastoral side of my care.
I am writing this citation in order to draw attention to a nurse of particularly noteworthy merit.

Diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, I was admitted to Fletcher Ward the following day. As thoroughly impressive as this response time was, it really left no room for even considering what was going on, let alone the sheer staggering enormity of how much my life, as well as that of my wife and young son, had just changed. Naturally, I therefore relied extensively upon the professionalism and extraordinary care of the nurses and healthcare assistants for emotional support, luckily the care I have received from Nottingham City and in particular from the staff on Fletcher Ward has generally been exemplary and I cannot imagine a better example of how the NHS should run. A massive part of this is due to the staff, and I wish to highlight Laura as a shining example of how Exemplary professionalism combined with a humane and understanding approach to nursing can have a significant effect on someone who is really suffering.

Hospitals almost seem designed to exhaust the care recipient as much as to heal them. It was the nature of my care that I was hooked up to various beeping machines throughout the night and therefore that my rest would be not just disturbed but, well, annihilated frankly. Laura’s professionalism puts her above other care providers in her position. Wherever able, she would ensure that she was present immediately prior to a line needing to be changed, swapping them over with as little fuss as possible and therefore preventing a significant amount of disturbance.

Having been kept awake for hours at a time due to the insufferable beeping of IV machines left idle in the small hours, I cannot properly state how well received this attention to detail, and care was and how much my care benefitted from such a thoughtful, considerate approach.  More than this, she spent the time to learn about me and my family, to understand what we were going through, and then used this information to help with the pastoral side of my care.

Despite the time between in-patient stays and the number of patients she must have cared for in this time she always remembered my wife's and sons' names and key details about them. It is impossible to state how important such human connection at times of extreme stress are, but she made the harder times easier and helped to make stays more enjoyable.
Every time I saw that she was on the ward, I knew that I would receive the very best care she is richly deserving of any and all praise that she can receive
