Seeing the patient's upbeat personality and big smile return to her face was not only a beautiful moment, but it was inspirational to her peers, myself included.
Sarah Boyd has always been a steward of compassion. There is not enough ink in this pen to write out all of the times I personally have witnessed her go above and beyond for her patients, but I would like to highlight a particular instance.

We had a lung transplant patient who spent several months on our unit. Within that time, she had a couple of dry runs which inevitably led to some emotional turmoil. Sarah immediately recognized this and started planning ways to improve the patient's emotional state. She knew the patient enjoyed drinking tea, so the next day, Sarah brought in a box of tea and set up a bedside tea party with the patient, nurses, and the APP that day. She also brought in a gingerbread house for the patient to put together. In addition to these kind gestures, Boyd also gave her a salon-style (setup a shower bag on an IV pole and a drainage basin in a trash can) shampoo, complete with a scalp massage.

Seeing the patient's upbeat personality and big smile return to her face was not only a beautiful moment, but it was inspirational to her peers, myself included. Sarah reminds us all by example about how our profession impacts the lives of others. I ask that you please honor her continued acts of service by awarding her a long overdue DAISY Award.
