My partner and I required care that took that trauma into account. Brianna went above and beyond, providing high-quality health care and emotional support during a trying time.
Brianna was our nurse for at least half of the four days my partner and I stayed in the Mother/ Baby Unit. Our situation was a difficult one. My partner had a C-section after many hours of labor. Also, we suffered a late-term stillbirth (34 weeks) in a previous pregnancy. My partner and I required care that took that trauma into account. Brianna went above and beyond, providing high-quality health care and emotional support during a trying time. Importantly, Brianna was always on time in delivering whatever my partner needed, e.g., medications, requests for additional items for our room, etc. We could always rely on her to show up when needed, which lifted the burden off of us to follow up with her/the front desk. She was precise in administering medication my partner needed for C-section recovery, taking care to deliver the correct dose, and adapting the dose as needed (per the midwife's input). She troubleshooted multiple times to ensure that my partner received the correct medication. Brianna could have fulfilled her responsibilities by popping in and out, but she made a point of returning to our room to provide additional, personalized support. For example, my partner struggled with breastfeeding, and our son was losing weight. She provided encouragement to my partner during that difficult time and brought a breast pump to our room for her to try. Just getting that special attention and being reassured that with breastfeeding, there are many options that things don't work out immediately was invaluable to us. Brianna put us at ease, educated us on some important newborn basics, and answered all of our questions thoroughly. She clearly is very knowledgeable and well-versed in her job, but she brings a level of attention and care that I believe improved my partner's mental and physical well-being - and the well-being of others she attended to in the unit. Brianna is a great example of an extraordinary nurse - someone who is detail-oriented, reliable, and knowledgeable but also patient, compassionate, and dedicated. I hope you'll seriously consider her for this recognition and let her know she's been nominated by a grateful recipient of her care.
