Katherine Mullis exceeds expectations in many ways with many patients and families. Today, I want to focus on her extraordinarily compassionate care, support, and advocacy for one patient and that patient's family. Katherine works as a Case Manager on Weaver 9 and has a patient 'J' who experienced a devastating brain injury and has been in the hospital for several months. J has a child who is also in the hospital, and Katherine partnered with the patient's family, the staff of the unit where the child is cared for, and her own unit colleagues to arrange for the child to be able to experience skin-to-skin contact with his mother in anticipation of her death. Family members were able to be present for this precious moment and record it in photographs and video. Further, Katherine was able to facilitate the presence of a priest from the patient's faith practice who provided a blessing and prayer for the mother, child, and family. Katherine's thoughtfulness and caring created an experience for this family that will bring them comfort long into the future. This is just one glimpse into the magnificent, caring person that Katherine is. It's a pleasure to work with Katherine. I believe she is very deserving of this recognition.
