First, I want to say that all the staff at Baylor, especially my nurses on the 2nd floor of the Women’s Hospital, were fantastic! I felt very well cared for in my recovery, nothing I asked for was an inconvenience and each nurse provided information I needed to help with my recovery. I would like to nominate Karen Davidson for the DAISY award because she showed great compassion and was truly "On my side" as I was attempting to empty my bladder so I could go home without a need to cath at home. While this may seem like a small thing, to me, it was very significant! Karen gave me excellent advice and made sure I was trying everything possible to succeed. She contacted my doctor so we could be sure of what my goal was. And she gave me time to try everything I could to reach my goal. Most importantly, she was very positive. She did not make me feel rushed or stressed, which would have certainly hindered my success. When I was able to empty my bladder of all but 14mL, Karen celebrated with me! I so appreciated how much she cared about me and my success. To ensure that I won't have any setbacks at home, Karen taught me how to self-cath and sent me home with supplies so that I have everything I need to avoid a trip to the ER if I have trouble emptying my bladder at home. In the past few weeks, I have felt apprehensive about this surgery. There was a "mystery mass" and some other unusual cysts lurking around, and my doctor wasn't entirely sure what she would find. To wake up in recovery and hear my doctor say, "It's all benign" was such a relief! Everything after that was honestly as pleasant as it could be, thanks to my wonderful nurses. I'm so grateful for the care and compassion they gave me; and especially grateful that Karen was so committed to making sure I could meet my goal and come home.
