When you are able to develop a relationship like this, coming in for chemo is secondary. Will I miss the chemo and its side effects? Absolutely not. Will I miss Taylor while I spend time with the nuclear medicine group? Absolutely.
I have been a patient at DF for over 9 years. Pretty amazing but that is why you come to DF, a research and teaching hospital at the forefront of the industry. Research is the key in my opinion as patients deal with the challenges of specific cancers and cells that can change and morphe over time. DF's research keeps them at the forefront of the industry developing new therapies to meet the challenges of these evolving cancers. It is that work and research that continues to give hope to patients that life can and will be extended under all difficult circumstances. DF is an institution and entity in name, but the reality is that it is made up of thousands of the best people working in this very focused industry. These individuals span and hold so many job titles and responsibilities, and over my 9 years, I have had the pleasure of interacting and being taken care of by dozens and dozens and dozens of them which brings me to the point of this communication. I have completed 3 rounds of chemo over the years and participated in a clinical trial. I have now moved on to a newly recommended course of therapy. Believe it or not, the "thing" I will miss most from my chemo treatments is not a "thing" rather she is a person. I have been helped and taken care of by numerous folks, all of whom have been wonderful and I appreciate. One person, however, does stand out from the group, and she is Taylor Jones. Whether she was assigned to handle my injections or infusions or not, Taylor always made a point to stop in, say hello, and catch up if she walked by or knew that I was there. She made a point to show her interest and care for me. She has gotten to know a few of my kids, remembering them by name. I was excited for her, knowing she was going to see Taylor Swift with her sister and mom and that she vacations down in RI at her grandma's place. When you are able to develop a relationship like this, coming in for chemo is secondary. Will I miss the chemo and its side effects? Absolutely not. Will I miss Taylor while I spend time with the nuclear medicine group? Absolutely. It is for this reason that Taylor is a DAISY Nurse.
