I looked over, and Claudia was holding my sister’s hand and praying with her. From that moment on, my sister calmed down, relaxed, and started her transition so peacefully. It was SO beautiful!
I just had to reach out to share our family’s recent experience with Cedars – MDR. It was amazing, beautiful and so memorable! My sister was admitted for pneumonia via ER. The ER's response and thoroughness was so comforting and competent. ALL the nurses there were so caring, conscientious, and attentive, especially one nurse – Claudia Santos (Martinez). She went above and beyond, no matter if my sister was her patient or not. We were so thankful and comforted knowing that she was getting the best care and attention!!!!
Claudia is a super professional, caring, friendly, and competent nurse. As time went on, my sister was making it clear to us that she was ready to transition on to the Lord. I know she let Claudia know she was Catholic at some point. The morning before my sister passed, Claudia brought her a framed picture of the Virgin Mary and a Rosary. The picture went on the table at the bottom of her bed, and the Rosary beads on her hand. It was very special for the entire family as we were all raised Catholic, attended Catholic school, etc.
On the last full day of my sister’s life, you could see her frustration both in movement and her faint requests to ‘let her go up.’ We assured her that she had permission to go & it was ‘with’ her and the Lord, and the woman in the picture she was looking at. Then in the later afternoon, the family was talking with the doctors, etc… I looked over, and Claudia was holding my sister’s hand and praying with her. From that moment on, my sister calmed down, relaxed, and started her transition so peacefully. It was SO beautiful!
And then later, as Claudia is getting ready to leave after her shift, she popped back in and helped the doctor remove my sister’s chest tube!!! AND then she asked us if there was anything she could get us, and I mentioned Holy Water. Unbelievably, at 9:30 pm, Claudia showed up at the door with a bottle of Holy Water and asked if I wanted to bless my sister, but I asked her to do it – and she did with a short prayer!!!! Claudia lives in Anaheim!!!! She left work at 7pm'ish', drove to Anaheim, met her brother (a priest) who had a bottle of Holy Water that he blessed waiting for her; she got it and, turned around, and drove back to MDR to deliver it to my sister!!!!! How amazing and caring and beautiful is THAT!? Unbelievable!!! An Angel on earth and a godsend to my sister and the family!!!!
She is the ‘top of the barometer’ for what a perfect nurse/human being is!!!! And I needed you and the entire Cedars group to know that!!! She’s more than a keeper!!! She’s an Angel in nurse’s clothing!!!! There is so much more I could share about her caring for my sister, but I’d have to write a book for that. MDR-Cedars is in good hands with the staff it has. Please make sure they know how awesome they are and how much they are appreciated. (I lived at the hospital for a lot of the time that my sister was there and I saw all of this first hand… and I'm so glad that I did!!!)
