Sam was empathetic and even offered me a wonderful hug. She was a huge help and comfort in a very difficult situation, and it made a huge difference.
Sam provided care to my husband for two days during his stay at UPMC Mercy. While she was very busy, she still took the time and effort to go above and beyond, and it made all the difference to us. She was very knowledgeable and skilled. Despite a complicated medical situation, she knew exactly how to treat the burns. She also communicated incredibly well. She asked good questions to get the information she needed. Then, she clearly explained what needed to be done and why. My husband was resistant to what needed to be done, but after she explained what was necessary and why, he was on board. She clearly explained how to care for my husband's wounds at home and answered all my questions patiently and well. While in the burn unit, she did everything she could to ensure my husband's comfort, offering warm blankets, water, and snacks. She went out of her way to make arrangements for follow-up care that would work for us despite our distance from the hospital. When we left, she guided us through the maze of hallways to the elevator. She was also very compassionate. I was exhausted, very worried about my husband, and upset. Sam was empathetic and even offered me a wonderful hug. She was a huge help and comfort in a very difficult situation, and it made a huge difference. My husband and I really appreciate her expertise and efforts!
