Debra had just started her shift and saw family members in the hallway who were looking for their father, who was in the hospital. She offered to help when they told her of the room number that their father was in the day before when they visited him. Debra found out that the patient had passed away that night and that the other daughter was notified of their father’s death. The daughters were in tears and saddened that they were not informed by their other sister. They did mention to Debra that they were not on speaking terms at the moment. Debra immediately called and informed the OA of the situation. She also asked the OA if she could bring the deceased father to one of the closed units in the ICU for the other two daughters to see their father for the last time. They were so brokenhearted and crying for the passing of their father but were extremely grateful that Debra was there that day. With the many tasks that Debra had to do that day, she knew that she had to do this for the two daughters. Debra was able to provide support and comfort for them. Debra always gives her all for the MICU team, but this day, she really went above and beyond.
