Lucy Norris has dedicated her life to nursing. Over the course of her storied career, she has worked in multiple states to build strong cultures and safe work environments, as she developed programs to ensure her nurses care for patients with love, joy, and compassion.
During Nurses Week, one of our clinical directors created two icons to put onto T-shirts: one had an outline of a historical-looking nurse emblazoned with “What would Flo do?” indicating what would Florence Nightingale do? The other, “What would Lucy do?” with a fitting outline of Lucy herself.
It’s a question that many of us who work around her ask ourselves: “What would Lucy do in this situation?” Since she began as the chief nurse executive at MultiCare Auburn Medical Center and Covington Medical Center, Lucy has so often been the voice of reason, the one who has a questioning mindset, and the one we partner with to address the issues and celebrate the successes.
“Lucy is the finest nurse I’ve ever worked with,” says our president.
“She has the ability to build relationships to get the work done. Lucy has been our rock,” says our chief medical officer.
“There are two people who have truly guided me on the leadership journey; Lucy is one of them,” says our chief operating officer.
Prior to joining MultiCare, Lucy served as vice president and chief nursing officer for Texas Health Resources in Bedford, Texas. Other previous leadership positions included senior vice president of patient care services at Osteopathic Medical Center in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, and director of nursing, maternal and child health at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
Her years of service, dedication, and commitment to nursing deserve The DAISY Award for Lifetime Achievement.
