My daughter has been coming to the Duke Children's Hospital on a frequent basis for years. Mariah Buczek has been attending to my daughter on Saturdays for the last couple of years. No child enjoys spending their Saturdays at the hospital, but Mariah finds a way to make it enjoyable. She always welcomes my daughter with a smile and asks her about school and even future plans. She always takes her time to perform my daughter's IV to ensure it is inserted correctly the first time. The number of times Mariah has performed her IV, not once has she complained of pain or had any discomfort. She follows up with the labs to make sure things are getting processed in a timely manner, and if there are any delays, she makes us aware. I appreciate being able to ask her a status, and she always has an answer.

As a parent, I am very appreciative of her attention to detail. For instance, since my daughter has to get an IV once a month, Mariah always makes sure to alternate the arm to minimize scarring. She makes sure to check on my daughter to see if she needs anything and make sure all is well.

From my perspective, she is also a great team player. She helps her team workers and is very respectful to her colleagues. I have watched her explain with ease processes to new nurses who have joined the team. Mariah demonstrates compassion, attention to detail, patience, and commitment to her duties at the hospital. She cares about the well-being of her patients, and it shows through her actions.
