I am an employee at Hillcrest but was recently a patient as I delivered my first baby there. Not only was this my first pregnancy, but also a high-risk one as I have type 1 diabetes. Kelly came on shift as my labor was progressing. My contractions were occurring very quickly, and she noticed on the monitor that my baby didn't seem to have enough time to recover in between each contraction. It was possible we were going to have to pause or slow down the labor process. Instead, Kelly took time to consider some of the unique needs of me and my baby, asking me what position I usually slept in during the pregnancy. She helped reposition me, and we immediately noticed that my baby was more comfortable in a position that was familiar. We didn't need to pause labor at all! She also worked closely with me and my husband throughout the entire delivery, making sure I tried various positions for pushing, coaching me with breathing, and encouraging me the whole time. She knew when to listen to my needs and incorporate her expertise. She was calm and compassionate as well as direct and confident. As a first-time mom, I couldn't imagine having anyone else help deliver our baby. Kelly is a true asset to this hospital and the patients she serves. Bringing a child into the world is often scary, and there are so many unknowns, but she helped start our daughter's life out in the best way possible!
